About this Item

LAING, Samuel. A MODERN ZOROASTRIAN. London: Chapman & Hall, 1891. 8vo., hardcover; embossed green cloth, gilt titles on spine; 265 pages, with large publisher's catalog at the rear. First Edition, fifth thousand. Laing (Dec. 12, 1812- Aug. 6, 1897) was a British railway administrator, politician and influential Victorian-era writer on science and religion. His book "A MODERN ZOROASTRIAN" argued that the ancient religion of Zoroastrianism was more consistant with modern scientific thought than traditional Christianity. He argued that the central Zoroastrian thought has been confirmed by science and that modern Christianity should abandon its traditional theology to center on the figure of Jesus as an ideal of humanity. Very Good (some wear & rubbing covers; little cracking hinges but still tight; contents clean). $50.00. Bookseller Inventory # 2804
