About this Item

WERTHEIMBER, Louis. A MURAMASA BLADE. A Story of Feudalism in Old Japan. Boston: Ticknor and Company, 1887. Large 8vo, padded red silk over boards, stamped in gilt, t.e.g; xvi + 188pp. 5 copper engravings, many other relief engravings. An unusual, deluxe binding for this book, which is usually found in tan and green cloth. The binding has proved as fragile as it was originally lovely, but this copy, with a bit of wear to the gilt titling, but otherwise intact, is by far the best example of this fugitive presentation of the book we have ever seen.
