About this Item
RUBENS, Bernice. Madame Sousatzka. Orig. boards. London: Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1962. 8vo. First edition of the author's second book. Scarce. Presentation inscription signed by the author (with first name) on the front flyleaf. It is addressed to a fellow Welsh Jewish writer, Mimi Josephson (1911-98), and her husband, Abe. Rubens states that the Josephsons have "their own `Marcus'" and that they "handled him superbly." Marcus Crominski is a principal character in Madame Sousatzka and a musical prodigy. The Josephsons' "Marcus" is probably their son, Brian David Josephson (b. 1940), who shared the Nobel Prize in physics in 1973. A trace of mild sunfading to spine, else fine in near fine, price-clipped dustjacket with a bit of rubbing to spine ends and some light soiling to rear panel. Bookseller Inventory # 52783
