Title: The Magic Crystal: A Wildlife Adventure Game...
Book Condition: Good
About this title
Young readers can explore the Amazon rain forest, the Australian outback, and other intriguing habitats in a fact-filled, entertaining book of animals and their environments, presented in a hide-and-seek game format. From School Library Journal:
Grade 1-3-"A Wildlife Adventure Game" in which players seek a magic crystal (that changes color and shape on every page) hidden in the habitats depicted on double-page spreads. The instructions provided on the first page are difficult to decipher. Once the crystal is found in each natural setting, readers must turn to the key in the front of the book and proceed to the appropriate page number. In addition to the crystal, there are also lost belongings (a jacket, dress, shorts, etc.) and various animals to find. Locating the crystal depends on readers' ability to identify the animals from the clues given; however, there is no answer key. The line-and-watercolor illustrations are muddled; animals are unrealistic, the lost objects can easily be mistaken for part of the scenery, and the crystals are minuscule and extremely hard to find. This title resembles a boring, confusing, poorly designed game. If you are looking for seek-and-find books, buy more copies of "Waldo" or "I Spy."-Olga Kuharets, Public Library of Charlotte-Mecklenburg County, NC
