About this title

This is the story of Colonel John Michael Harrigan. A rugged individualist, Harrigan made his mark wherever he traveled. Although his mother was a God fearing woman, most of his development was left to a father who taught him worldly ways. Gambling, fighting, drinking, and sordid behavior were traits etched deep in his young soul. His best friend was George Armstrong Custer. Together they grew up in Ohio, went to West Point. and served with honor in the Union Army. They stood at Appomattox and witnessed history as Lee surrendered the South on April 9, 1865. After the wart, he left the Army with three friends to seek their fortunes in the West. On the Northern Plains he was captured by a fierce Lakota warrior, Plenty Coups, and taken to live with the Sioux. They respected him for his bravery, and named him Mahpiya Awanyanke, "Sky Watcher." After his release from captivity he was re-united with his three friends who has started the Bar 4 Ranch in the Powder River County of Wyoming. Together they helped shape a hostile territory with the citizens of Mule Creek. In a harsh, rugged and unforgiving land the encounter outlaws, lost gold, and love. In the process they are forced to deal with the plight of the Sioux and Northern Cheyenne. Alliances are forged, mysteries are solved, and the West is enriched because good and godly people sacrificed their lives for those who would follow the pioneer trail. --- from book's back cover
