About this Item

Blue cloth. 143 pp including index. With a few illustrations. A history of the siege of Louisburg, part of King George's War. New England colonists, feeling threatened by the large French fort on Cape Breton Island, argued for a campaign against the Louisburg fort as it had the potential to harass fishing fleets. In 1744/45, an expedition was organized and a siege was conducted, with the French forces finally surrendering. This work chronicles Maine's (then part of Massachusetts) efforts in the skirmish, including a study of William Pepperell's leadership, and a list of Maine officers and men, and publication of correspondence related to the siege. GOOD condition, EX-MUSEUM LIBRARY. Pocket, pastedown and minor stamping present, with traces of a spine label present. Mostly minor scuffing and general fading to the covers. Light soiling. Some wear along the extremities. Previous owner's armorial bookplate present, partially covered by the museum's plate. Text clean and solid with scattered minor foxing. Bookseller Inventory # 005784
