About this title

Synopsis:

We are all searching and striving for something better: A life better than what we have now. But no matter how hard we try, or what goals we attain, nothing truly brings satisfaction, contentment and purpose. And those of us within the church do the same thing, except we give the striving a spiritual label. What are we all striving after? The answer: kingdom. But all of man's conceptions and attempts at creating a kingdom fall woefully short. We were created for God's kingdom, not to create a kingdom like God's. God is all about kingdom and He will establish it upon this earth. His kingdom is why we were created. His kingdom is why we are saved. His kingdom is our hope. Nothing can ever replace it and nothing we can do can make it happen, but nonetheless, His kingdom is coming. His kingdom is our majestic destiny. Once we realize that this is our main purpose, we will be enveloped in His love in ways that we have never before experienced, and we will be motivated like never before to live for His glory.

About the Author:

I grew up on the sunny warm beaches of Southern California...a true beach surf rat (I even lettered in surfing in high-school). The older I got, however, that lifestyle proved to be less than constructive for me. After moving to Texas to escape and start fresh I interviewed for a job selling computers. In my first interview the owner of the company, who happened to be a Southern Baptist deacon, shared the Evangelism Explosion gospel outline with me. I rejected the gospel that day...but got the job! I had heard it all before and was so full of myself I did not see my need. I grew up with limited church involvement, while my grandmother worked at the church we were just CEO s (Christmas...Easter Only). My early memory of church during those childhood years is of singing John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt and Do Your Ears Hang Low. Pretty spiritual huh? But there I was at the age of nineteen, in the Bible-belt, working for a man who never gave up on me (despite giving him plenty of reasons to do so) and I finally came to realize my need for Jesus saving grace. Life has never been the same since. After working in business in Dallas, Texas for a number of years my appetite for God and His word was flourishing and serving Him in ministry was fueled by a passion I had never known. So off to seminary I went! Only in reality the main reason I think God directed my path to seminary in Oregon was to meet my wonderful wife Angie (a native Oregonian)! There is no one on the face of this planet who has changed my life, and whom God has used to change my character, more than her. We have two wonderful boys, Carson (13) and Cooper (11) who have taught us more than we thought we ever needed to learn and have blessed us with many smiles and laughs (and a few tears also!). As a family we love to travel and soak our toes in warm sand, and I still jump at the chance to surf anytime I can (if the water is warm). At home my time is spent reading, studying, juggling all the pastoral duties, playing golf, watching Pawn Stars or House Hunters, and chasing our boys around to all their activities and social events. It is a good way to live. God is good! Curtis holds a Masters of Divinity from Western Seminary and has served as a pastor of Redmond Community Church (Redmond, Oregon) since 2000.
