About this Item

Good/none. Pale green cloth binding with gilt text to spine, 172 pages. There is an indent and rust spot on the ffep as well as a rust spot on the front paste down, both originating from a paper clip. No dust jacket. Official history of the former Willamette Industries, Inc. Accompanying this book are 3 silver prints of a D-8 Caterpillar skidding logs. According to the labels on the rear of the images, these images were published by Caterpillar Tractor Co., Peoria, IL. The photographer was Teen Becksted, date taken was April 18, 1956, File Class was Logging-Skidding. The owner was Santiam Lumber Co., Sweet Home, Oregon. Below this information is a description of the work in the image. Two of the images are 8" X 10" and the third is 10" X 8" . Each image has a negative number. There is an operator on the D-8 and the machine is pulling a nice turn of 3 logs. This was before the "arch" was in common use so it is a straight drum pull. The lower right corner of each image is slightly bent over but not affecting image. The images come in the original brown manila mailer addressed from Intersatate Tractor & Equipment, Portland, Oregon; To Santiam Lumber Company, Sweet Home, Oregon. Date of mailing was May 11, 1956. Willamette Valley Lumber Co. purchased an interest in Santiam Lumber Co. in December of 1951. This book and these photographs once belonged to Leo Banta. He was a wheel in Willamette Industries, Inc. but I have not yet researched what his capacity in the company was. Bookseller Inventory # 000793
