This copy had, at one time, been attacked by bugs along the external spine, primarily the front but a couple of holes on the on the rear cover. The covers have been reinforced with new paper and a new front and rear pages. This copy is signed by Malcom Campbell on the original frontis. T he life of Sheriff Malcolm Campbell offers a glimpse of the twilight of the Old West. Campbell, as the ffirst sheriff of Converse County in 1888. He was instrumental in the capture of Alferd Packer, the notorious cannibal. Campbell was also sheriff during the biggest cattle rustling conflict in Wyoming history, the Johnson County Cattle War in 1892. The conflicts between large cattle companies and smaller settlers, led to the death of up to 25 people and only ended with the intervention of the US Cavalry. See Wright-Howes D88. Boards are toned, worn around the edges and have a spine that is sun-faded with folding caps. Inside pages are mostly clean, though the spine has cracked at the center. This account of the life of Sheriff Malcolm Campbell offers a glimpse of the twilight of the Old West.
