Douglas G. Hall, Professor Emeritus of History, has had a long and distinguished career at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica, in the Departments of Economics (1959-61) and History (1961-81). He retired in 1981. Among his many publications are "Free Jamaica 1838-1865" (1959); "Five of the Leewards 1834-1870" (1971); "In Miserable Slavery: Thomas Thistlewood in Jamaica 1750-1786" (1989); and "Grace, Kennedy and Company Ltd. A Story of Jamaican Enterprise" (1993).
