Small 4to. Full black pebble-grain calf with gilt spine lettering and rules, inner dentelles. xvi, 682pp. All edges gilt. Frontispiece, numerous illustrations, watered silk endpapers. Near fine. "Edition De Luxe," limited to 1000 numbered sets (this #235) signed by Gunsaulus (who adds "Faithfully Yours"). In the year it was published this copy was presented by Herman H. Kohlsaat (1853-1924), powerful Chicago businessman and newspaper publisher, to the library in his hometown of Galena, Illinois, who placed a quaint small bookplate noting this on the front pastedown; their sole other marking is their name blind-embossed on the title page. Gunsaulus, pastor of Chicago's Central Church, circulated in the same elite social circles as Kohlsaat and the two no doubt knew each other. An exceptionally tight and handsome copy.
