Book Description The Arthur H. Clark Co., Glendale, 1963. First edition. Presentation inscription, signed by the author to his good friend, Harvey Starr. One of 2059 copies. 249pp. Illustrations, maps, portraits. Brown cloth. Bookplate. A very fine copy with pictorial dust jacket. Extremely scarce, especially in this condition and signed. Less than two years after completion, the dam in San Francisquito Canyon north of Los Angeles broke at midnight and took the lives of 450 persons and destroyed towns and orchards in the Santa Clara River valley. This book is both scholarly and controversial as the tragedy was obscured for years, in large part because the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was concerned about public relations. Much about William Mulholland and his involvement. [Clark and Brunet I: 170; Clark and Brunet II: 196; Zamorano Select: 83]. Bookseller Inventory # 7622
