C. Gilbert M.D." Gilbert (1884-1961) was a renaissance man of the first half of the 20th century, an athlete (gold medalist pole vaulter at the 1908 Olympics), inventor, builder, and entrepreneur who popularized everything from erector sets and American Flyer trains to the extension of fringe benefits to employees. He was the subject of the 2002 biography by Bruce Watson "The Man Who Changed How Toys and Boys Were Made" and the 2002 tv movie "The Man Who Saved Christmas" (about his successful efforts to dissuade Congress from banning the sale of toys during World War I). Book is square and unmarked; corners sharp, spine ends lightly bumped. The dust jacket is not price-clipped (original price $3.75); one chip at tail of spine, light edgewear. Brodart protected.
