Wraps; large 8vo; pp. 205, plus frontispiece and 14 b/w illustrations. Inscribed by Dinesen on the half-title page, "to Paul Hildebrandt, 1 August 1964." Spine tanned, lightly creased, and a little chipped at tips; corners lightly rubbed. Internally bright and clean. Uncommon, particularly signed. After being refused a British visa, Thomas Dinesen (brother to Isak Dinesen) crossed the Atlantic, and enrolled in the Canadian Army in June 1917. He was 1st Lieutenant Canadian Black Watch. He was awarded the V.C. on 12 August 1918 at Parvillers, when "five times in succession he rushed forward alone and put hostile guns out of action, accounting for 12 of the enemy with bomb and bayonet."
