Grade 1-3-Greene clearly and simply outlines her subject's life in this brief biography that includes photographs, period reproductions, and/or watercolor illustrations on every page. The first chapter deals with Steiff's disabilities that resulted from childhood polio and her warm family environment. Readers will relate to the sibling relationships portrayed. The evolution of the toy maker's creative talents and her business successes are recounted. However, the use of undocumented dialogue weakens what is otherwise an inspirational story. That coupled with the lack of name recognition with the intended audience make this a marginal purchase.
