About this title

The lives of the Montanans portrayed in these poems are transformed by tremendous loss and hardship. Their spiritual survival of the loss of land, several wars, and the Great Depression is made possible by faith, laughter, love, resilience, and redemption. These well-researched Montana stories, told in poems and accompanied by archival photographs, span more than a century.

About the Author:

Bonnie Buckley Maldonado is a second-generation member of a northern Montana ranching family. She is a western woman. While her own education and career as a college professor have drawn her away from Montana, she remains closely linked to the land and people of her native state. Her writing includes various professional publications in counseling and education. This is her second book of poetry. Her work appears in Montana Women Writers: A Geography of the Heart, and has also appeared in small university press publications. She has three grown children and lives in the mountains of New Mexico with her husband, two canine companions, and the ghost of a third.
