About this title

Mark J. Arend

About the Author:

My journey began on December 22, 1971, Lorain, Ohio; given in care of two loving parents and an older sister. Much of my youth, like all of us, was driven in a path of trial and error. Be that as it may, it was usually those painful occurrences of trial and failure that truly motivated my desire to establish a real relationship with God, building a true friendship that truly helped me find my inner self. After graduating from high school in 1991, I soon decided, with a spark of admiration, to join the United States Marine Corps, Parris Island, South Carolina. After boot camp, I attended military police training in Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Later to be stationed at Marine Corp Air Station, Yuma, Arizona. As fate would have it, I met the most tenacious gunnery sergeant and watch commander that would forever draw my desires to a fuller understanding of one man's dream, that of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I later served in Okinawa, Japan, and also trained in the martial arts of Shuri-te karate association. Upon my departure from the marines, I continued my training in the art of self-defense by a master of Ohio Ji Do Kwan Karate Association. I would later spend eight years as a correction officer for the state of Ohio prison system. The conditions of a broken system and racial inequality would forever motivate the inspirations written in the body of this work. I currently reside with my three beautiful children with a hope for a more united world for peace and justice for all.
