Book Description Bogota, 1828. Written in brown ink. 1 handwritten page. Signed by Bolívar. 1 handwritten page. Signed by Bolívar. Written in brown ink. Signed letter of recommendation by Simón Bolívar to Marquis de Lafayette. Sent to Gilbert Motier, the Marquis de Lafayette, a key figure in both the American and French Revolutions, regarded as the link between George Washington, father of the United States, and the sender of the letter, Simón Bolívar, the liberator of Latin America. Their correspondence started in 1825 October, when Bolívar received a letter from Lafayette with gifts on behalf of the Washington family, to salute "the second Washington of the New World". Bolívar was moved by the honor and the miniature portrait of Washington he received, and thanked Lafayette with these words: "Washington presented by Lafayette is the crown of all human rewards". In the present letter, dated on April 12, 1828, in Bogota, Bolívar introduces and recommends to Lafayette a worthy French man, a patriot, who is also a friend of a certain naturalist, Roullier. Bibl.: Miller, D.: Layette: His Extraordinary Life and Legacy. Bloomington, IN: iUniverse, 2015.; Bushnell, D. (ed): El Libertador: Writings of Simón Bolívar. New York: Oxford University Press, 2010. Slightly chipped at edges. Overall in fine condition. Seller Inventory # 1609
