Synopsis: In 1597, five Franciscan friars were brutally murdered on the Georgia coast in an event known as “The Juanillo Uprising,” and for more than four centuries, a young chief from the province of Guale has borne the blame for their deaths. Unfortunately for Addison Kane, Juanillo says he's innocent, and he's content to haunt Addison until Addison can prove what he says is true. Former surveyor Addison Kane dropped out of work to spend four years indulging his passion for history. Only two weeks from the end of the semester, one last paper stands between him and his degree. With it, he could overturn four hundred years of Georgia history, right a historical wrong, and graduate with honors, provided, of course, that he's not dead or in jail before then. While working to finish his paper on time, an old friend from Sweeney County suddenly reappears, then disappears again. Does his disappearance have anything to do with the financing of a right-wing militia? How does a 1969 Boss 302 function as a time machine, exposing the suppressed history of Addison Kane? Most importantly, how can Addison satisfy the naked, tattooed ghost of Juanillo? Then Addison finds himself the primary suspect in his friend's disappearance, a development that could put his entire life on trial. After years of pursuing history, history has begun pursuing Addison. Dead? Jail? It's pretty much a coin toss. This is the second in a planned trilogy of history mysteries featuring Addison Kane, the self-reliant, sideways-thinking Army vet introduced in “The Dead Hand of Sweeney County.” In all the books in this series, readers are encouraged to try solving the mystery, and even the most mundane details of a surveyor's day are actually clues, so pay attention. In whatever order you like, be sure to read the first two novels before tackling the third. Just a tip.
