About this Item

[28] p.: illustrations; 16 cm. Stapled wrappers. Printed in red and black throughout. Printed by the Blanchard Press as an advertisement for the Hotel Chamberlin, Old Point Comfort, Virginia. Publication information inside back wrapper. The Hotel Chamberlin was constructed in the 1890s and burned down in 1920. It was a massive Queen Anne-style building designed by Smithmeyer and Pelz, architects of the Library of Congress. The "Marvelous Diary" purports to be Captain John Smith's account of his experiences on being suddenly "transported bodilie into the Twentieth Centurie." Many of the illustrations depict Smith in 17th-century garb enjoying the pleasures of the Hotel Chamberlin, "a vast and sumptuous building." In Very Good Condition: wrapper slightly soiled; two small stains (rust?) on front wrapper; otherwise clean and tight. Bookseller Inventory # 002444
