About this Item

Mary Lyon tells the story of a determined young woman who lived in the early nineteenth century, and strove for academic excellence in her own education, and that of the students she later taught. Through her undying perseverance and dedication, Ms. Lyon also established the first womenís college, Mount Holyoke, in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Ms. Banning vividly portrays Ms. Lyonís story. Evelyn I. Banning led a life rather similar to Mary Lyonís. She was educated in a one room schoolhouse on a hill, and later attended high school and finally college. She taught in various college classrooms, including one that was dedicated to Mary Lyon, and lived in a building next door to the college, which Mary Lyon herself had taught in. Ms. Banning inscribed this copy to Southern Connecticut State UniversityĎs renowned Dr. Hilton C. Buley, who was president of the Memorial Scholarship Fund, for the University. This copy is in excellent condition, with tiny closed tears to the dustjacket. Size: 8vo 0.0. Bookseller Inventory # 267365
