About this title
Change is a part of everyday life. And if organizations want to remain competitive in the marketplace, they need to ensure their employees are equipped for the ride.
If the individuals in your organization are having a difficult time adapting and adjusting to organizational change, Mastering the Change Curve can provide the tools for employees to better handle organizational change. It's an easy and effective avenue for bringing issues to the surface, providing a framework for healthy growth, and empowering individuals to shift their focus from the past to the future ... without spinning their wheels.
- Pinpoint one's current stage in the change process
- Learn the four phases of change
- Understand the Change Curve Model
- Identify productive and nonproductive change behaviors
- Develop a strategy for mastering change
How It Works
Mastering the Change Curve is based upon years of research, experience, and the Kubler-Ross grief model. Using a current change initiative as a frame of reference, participants respond to a series of 24 statements that describe their responses to change. Scoring reveals which change phase the individual is currently experiencing, and it provides subscores in each of the change dimensions: Denial, Resistance, Acceptance, or Commitment.
The Self-Assessment, which is available in print and online form, takes around 10 minutes to complete. We recommend allowing approximately one to two hours for interpretation of results, debriefing, and action planning. The Facilitator Guide includes a wide range of tools and guidelines, including step-by-step workshop instructions, to lead a meaningful two-hour training session.
Trainer certification is not required in order to facilitate Mastering the Change Curve.
The Mastering the Change Curve Facilitator Set includes:
- Overview and introduction
- Administration guidelines
- Experiential learning methodology
- The Change Curve Model
- Preparation checklist
- Sample participant materials
- Facilitator instructions
- Alternative training designs
- Additional support materials
Uses for Mastering the Change Curve
Mastering the Change Curve is appropriate for any individual in the midst of organizational change. It can be used as a stand-alone learning instrument, the centerpiece of a more comprehensive curriculum, or a tool to:
- Provide support at the early stages of a new change effort
- Help individuals adapt to changes they did not initiate
- Gauge and interpret individual or team reactions to change
- Bring issues and concerns to the surface
- Spark discussion during a planning session, team-building session, or management retreat
