New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1908. Green (1846-1935) is considered to have invented many of the conventions of the modern detective novel, and is often cited as the first woman to write in the mystery/detective genre. First published by Bobbs-Merrill [Hubin, 180]; this is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the reprinted edition, which is rther uncommon. No publication date; assumed 1908. Variant red cloth binding with titling on the spine in black. Tipped on to the front cover is an illustration of the lady in question by Alice Barber Stephens, who also provides a frontis illustration and two others within. Light rub to the margins. This edition offers an interesting mistake by the printer - on the title page the publisher has been mis-spelled ("Crosset"). No dustjacket; in an archival plastic protector. Reprint Edition. Pictorial Cover. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. Illus. by Alice Barber Stephens. 8vo - over 7�" - 9�" tall.
