About this Item

Original maroon cloth, rebacked with the original back-strip laid down; back fly-leaf and paste-down worn. Ownership inscription to fly-leaf. From the library of Charles Ricksher, with his bookplate. First edition, first printing. Holmes thought that the original price of the book, $1.00, was much too high, and worried that it would not sell. He was glad to have been wrong on that point. Ricksher (d.1943) was a physician specializing in schizophrenia at Danvers Insane Hospital in Boston. BAL, 8876; C&T, p. 141. Bookseller Inventory # 12298
