Moses Maimonides (135-1204) was a rabbi, theologian and physician in Spain, Egypt and is considered to be one of the greatest medieval Jewish philosophers. He has been the author of enduring works on Philosophy, law and medicine. Medical Aphorisms is the best known and most comprehensive of his works, which consists of approximately 1,500 maxims compiled by Maimonides from the treatises of Galen, the ancient Greek physician. Maimonides arranged the Aphorisms into 25 treatises. Volume II contains surgery, gynecology, general rules of health, bathing, food and drink, pharmacology, specific remedies, mechanism of well-known illnesses, curiosities and strange occurrences and a chapter on inconsistencies of Galen's work.
