Gilt morocco spine label renewed. Early library gift plate on inside front cover; early signature on front blank front leaf - "G.S. Palmer." Library blind stamp on title page; middle name of author filled out in ink; shelf number written on verso. Pages are generally clean with an occasional light spot of marginal foxing. According to Garrison & Morton - "One of the best-known English texts on the subject." The first edition appeared in 1838.
