First edition of this remarkable work by one of the most famous physician of the 16th century, compiling the author's first four "curationum medicinalium centuriae," or his first 400 remedies, to cure various medical problems. Some age wear on binding with upper spine chipped and worn. 6" closed tear on upper front and back joint, with remnants of paper tape alongside. Edges of binding and corners heavily rubbed. Some rubbing on front and back covers. Ex-library copy with library stamp on title-page. Contemporary handwritten ex-libris at bottom of title-page. Fore-edge of first 10 pages partly chipped (not affecting text). Moderate to heavy water staining on lower and outer margin of pages. Sporadic contemporary marginalia (in Latin). The last 4 leaves of index are missing. Text in Latin. Binding and interior in overall fair condition. About the author: "João Rodrigues de Castelo Branco, better known as Amato Lusitano and Amatus Lusitanus (1511-1568), was a notable Portuguese Jewish physician of the 16th century. Like Herophilus, Galen, Ibn al-Nafis, Michael Servetus, Realdo Colombo and William Harvey, he is credited as making a discovery in the circulation of the blood. We calculate United States Postal Service fees online and then round the amount up to an even figure by one or two dollars to cover delivery confirmation and to help with the cost of packing materials. Within the United States:
USPS Media mail is typically $5 for a book of average weight. Priority mail varies, depending on whether USPS flat-rates are applicable and advantageous for the dimension, weight and distance.

International:
International First Class typically starts at $20. International Priority is typically $35 or less if under four pounds weight, and starts at $40 if over four pounds. International Express is a faster and more expensive option.
