Mink was the chief of the parachute division of this Chicago company. This is Vol. 1 of a two-volume set (the second volume on use and maintenance of parachutes was intended as "a manual for those in the profession." The volume described here is a history of the development and use of the parachute. It is dedicated to the memory of Herbert G. Mayer, former president of the company and a flier in World War I. Mink states that the company "worked closely with our Army and Navy forces prior to the outbreak of World War II to perfect the parachute for its important military uses." Reliance was at the time of publication the largest manufacturer of "man-carrying, aerial delivery and cargo chutes" in the country." With black-and-white photographs (e.g., "General MacArthur inspects paratrooper's equipment prior to an attack against the Japs in New Guinea") and little drawings and decorations in green. Black (or midnight blue?) cloth hard cover with gilt titles, octavo (8 1/2" x 5 1/4"), lightly toned inside cover from the glue used to attach endpapers, "Lt. J.K." written in ink on obverse of front free endpaper, over all very near fine. Bookseller Inventory # 020214OM
