About this Item

120 pages; publisher's pre-binding, full untrimmed margins (3 3/4 x 6 1/2 inch) with title on the front board and advertisement on the back for James Loring's music. William Cowper (1731-1800) was an English poet and hymnodist. His poetry was of everyday life and scenes of the English countryside. He became a fervent evangelical Christian and wrote many hymns under the influence of his friend John Newton ('Amazing Grace'). This Memoir recounts his early life as Cowper viewed it. Extremely rare in the publisher's pre-binding. Inscribed in ink on the front flyleaf 'Katherine Morse'. Bookseller Inventory # 11820
