About this Item

v, [3], 408, [2]pp. Contemporary quarter calf over marbled boards, spine lettered in gold, marbled endpapers. Engraved portrait frontispiece. With forty-six plates, including foldout hand-colored maps of the United States and of the state of New York, a large foldout with a geological profile extending from the Atlantic to Lake Erie and insets of views along the canal, and a large foldout of the grand canal celebration. Also includes eight facsimiles of letters at back. This copy, bound in quarter calf, has a paper presentation label from the City of New York affixed to the front board and thus lacks the embossed crest found on copies bound in full leather. Some wear to extremities, light toning to text. Label ghost to the front pastedown endpaper and the verso of the front free endpaper, tiny label to the front free endpaper. A very good copy. Peters, America on Stone, pp. 228-232. Howes C562. Sabin 14279. ; Quarto. Bookseller Inventory # 394
