About this Item

Wheaton (1826?1851) died young and lived well. His father was Henry Wheaton (1785 ?1848), American lawyer and diplomat, and it was because of dad that Robert spent his childhood and young adulthood in comfort and privilege, allowing him to indulge in appreciation or literature, art, opera, etc., and to write essays on those topics. His sister Abby gathers some of those essays here and provides a biographical sketch. Small 8vo. [2] ff., 385, 8 (ads) pp. Publisher's ribbed brown cloth, covers stamped and embossed in blind, spine lettered in gilt. Top of bottom of spine with chipped cloth.
