From the large private library of Horace Davis who has signed each of the title pages in pencil. William Channing (1780-1842) was a leading Unitarian preacher and thelogian in the United States who also had influence on the Transcendentalism movement. Horace Davis (1831-1916) was an California Gold Rush pioneer who helped found the Mercantile Library Association of San Francisco, United States Congressman 1877-1881 and President of the University of California (1887-90). He was an active member of the influential Unitarian church of San Francisco. Some chipping to spine of volume one, other volumes clean and intact. Bookseller Inventory # 13807
