A clean thick book in grey/black-lettered, ornate hard boards, 9 1/4" x 6 1/4" x 547 supple, clean pages of remarkable history. Benvenuto Cellini (1500-1571) was an Italian Renaissance Goldsmith, Soldier, Sculpture, Writer, Musician, Artist, Rakehell in the promiscuous 16th Century. He mentions duels, women, drink and debauchery, leaving out those instances of Sodomy for which he was convicted and for which he paid fines. A confidant of rulers including Pope Clement VII, Pope Paul III, King Francis I of France and others. Here is his Memoir, written during the final six years of Cellini's life. Brilliantly illustrated by James Daugherty. The front board is illustrated with the head of a Satyr; the spine is decorated with a nude and a Satyr. Interiors are Good, supple, clean. The boards show wear at the corners and spine ends. No dogears, No looseness, No mustiness, No smoke smell. Splendid for the Renaissance History reader, collector, historian, author.
