About this Item

96 p. "First edition, three numbered autograph copies, number 230, to the president, officers, and members of the Historical Society of Kansas, this memoir is respectfully addressed by J.V. Brower." It must be noted that if this is an autograph, it is neatest and most impressive autograph you've ever seen. Brower was a county official in Minnesota but is known for he extensive exploration and research establishing the sources of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers, and for his many other publications on geological and archaeological matters. The frontispiece map is entitled, "Archaelogic Chart of Interior Portion of Kansas U.S.A. Comparable with Coranado's Description of the Province of Quivera [1541]," by Brower, with the some thirty sites of villages discovered marked with red dots. The report has other maps and drawings, many large plates of photographs of artifacts discovered, smaller photographs within the text, a conclusion on the accuracy of Coronado's findings, and an index. Quarto (12 1/2" x 9 1/2"), gray cardboard cover with small chips at edges, perfect binding; printed on high-quality glossy paper; ex-library with no external library marks, partially removed library slips inside the front cover, a "for reference" mark stamped on first flyleaf, and a pale library number stamped on presentation page. Over all very good. Extra postage may be required because of the size and weight of the book. Bookseller Inventory # 011015JB
