pp. (ii), xiv, 212. 7 portraits in text. Publisher's cloth, book-block a bit skewed, else a very good copy. *Henry Richard was appointed Secretary to the Peace Society in 1848; he died in 1888. Prior to his election, he was a Methodist minister at the Marlborough Chapel and had been appointed a mediator in the Rebecca Riots. From 1848 onwards he was involved in most of the global conflicts and especially those relating to Britain's colonial interests, either as a participant at Peace Conferences or through his writings as an advocate for peace and reconciliation. He was elected to Parliament in 1868 and thus was able to use his political power in advocacy for peaceful solutions.
