Description:

Quarto. 494p. index. With five folding maps of Arras, Passchendaele, Cambrai, Hamel and Amiens and 17 diagrams of the great tank battles with two frontispieces and seven other pages. He planned the tank attack at Cambrai in 1917 and the tank operations for the autumn offensives of 1918. His Plan 1919 for a fully mechanized army was never implemented in his lifetime, and after 1918 he held various leading positions, notably as a commander of an experimental brigade at Aldershot. In the 1920s, he collaborated with his junior B. H. Liddell Hart in developing new ideas for the mechanization of armies. They together and Rommel separately understood the tank at a level that few other military men understood. Bound in rich black morocco over cloth by Maltby's of Oxford (not signed), raised bands, lettering and top edge gilt. A very nice near fine copy with just a bit of fading to cloth and spine.
