About this title

Synopsis:

For the past three decades, highly acclaimed theater and opera director Dr Jonathan Miller has pursued the unlikely hobby of photographing unusual and bizarre objects. In this acute, perceptive gaze, ordinary details of the everyday world, often ignored or overlooked, somehow take on a life of their own. Here, for the first time, these strange and enigmatic pictures are presented in a unique and highly personal volume, together with Jonathan's notebook jottings, which illuminate his observations on life and art.

About the Author:

Dr Jonathan Miller qualified as a doctor of medicine in 1959 and began his career in theatre in 1961. He co-authored and appeared in 'Beyond the Fringe' from 1961 to 1963. Since then he has directed theatre, opera and television. He edited and presented the BBC Arts magazine Monitor and won critical acclaim for his series on the history of medicine and accompanying book, the Body in Question. He has directed more than 50 opera productions all over the world. In 1998 he curated the National Gallery exhibition 'Mirror Image' and published an accompanying book entitled On Reflection.
