About this Item

The second volume in the collected Miracleman (called Marvelman in Great Britain) series. Collects issues 6-10. This is a key series in Alan Moore's near reinvention of the entire comics genre. Miracleman was a revival of an uninspired and stereotypical comic of the 1950s and 1960s. Moore worked on his reinterpretation simultaneous with his more famous V for Vendetta series. Rather uncommon as a graphic novel. 'The superhero genre has great potential if it can escape from the cliches, and Miracleman is one title that realizes this potential. Think of it as a horror prose poem, for it certainly crosses into the horror genre, but it also explores the concept of superhero as mythological hero or as god'--Rothchild, Graphic Novels, 395. Oddly not in 500 Essential Graphic Novels, perhaps because until Marvel reprinted the books recently, they graphic novel versions were very hard to come by. First edition (first printing). Very good in wrappers (paperback). Light wear to corners; thin, four-inch scratch on back cover. (comic book grade 5.5 to 6.0). Bookseller Inventory # 110420
