Presumed first edition. 8vo in original full calf, spine lined in gilt and with red leather spine label lettered in gilt. 280 pp. Binding well rubbed but firm, lacking the front free endpaper and with (presumably) a previous ownership signature roughly torn away from the top edge of the title page. Connecticut-born Nott (1773-1860) , a Presbyterian minister of some fame, an inventor (best known for the invention of the first stove to burn anthacite coal) and a educational pioneer; he was the president of Union College at the time of publication, a post he held from 1804 until his death.
