About this Item

This book, copyrighted by Eddy in 1896, is published as "authorized literature of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts." These writings first appeared in The Christian Science Journal (her column there and her other books were published under a variety of noms de plume). The author alludes to experiencing religious intolerance in the early days of introduction the "hitherto unexplored fields of Science,"¯ but she sees peace and understanding ahead as she offers "strong wing to lift [her] readers above smoke and conflict into light and liberty." One of the main tenants of Christian Science is that one does not need drugs and medical procedures because one can be healed physically, morally, and spiritually through the power of God and adherence to Christ's teachings. Dark brown embossed hard cover with a gilt decoration on the front and gilt titles and bands on the spine; all edges marbled, a lovely, fine volume. Bookseller Inventory # 101515ME
