A series of 11 addresses and lectures by the author between 1870 and 1891. First edition thus. Originally issued in pamphlet or paperback format with blue wrappers. 8.75 x 5.5 inches. This copy with a binding in red quarter leather and marbled paper hardboards. Hubbed spine with six compartments and with gilt-stamped author's name and title, Archéologie. Generally unbumped spine head and tail, with very lightly abraded corners. Binding is clean. Hinges are strong. Text block firmly bound in. Contents include: An Address Delivered in the Department of Ethnology and Anthropology, Sep. 15, 1870; Geological Society of London, Feb. 19, 1875; Geological Society of London, Feb. 18, 1876; Unwritten History and how to Read it. Aug., 1882; The Royal Society, Dec. 1, 1884; On some Rare or Unpublished Roman Coins, 1886, with one full-page plate; Society of Antiquaries, May 4, 1886; Ditto, Apr. 23, 1887; Ditto, Apr. 23, 1890; Ditto, Apr. 23, 1891; The Progress of Archaeology, Aug., 1891. Most of the blue wrappers are bound in. A bright green ribbon page marker is present. Some marginal notes in French, most in a dark ink hand, at the top of some of the title pages. Else a very clean copy. A Very Good copy. John Evans, [1823-1908], F.R.S., F. S.A., F.G.S., was a British numismatist, archaeologist, geologist and antiquarian.
