Hawaiian Mission Children's Society, Honolulu, Hawaii, 1937. Enlarged from the 1901 Edition. Hardcover, 199 pages, bound in dark blue cloth with gold gilt cover. PROVENANCE: Ex Libris bookplate: H. Ethelwyn A. Castle, whose name is registered as a member of the Hawaiian Mission Children's Society in the early 1900s (Annual Report, Volume 68, By Hawaiian Mission Children's Society). Original silhouettes drawn and pasted into front endpages, with a handwritten note stating " Silhouettes on cover are Lucy Goodale Thurston & Asa Thurston in 1819 or 20." Asa Thurston (1787–1868) and Lucy Goodale Thurston (1795–1876) were in the first company of American Christian Missionaries to the Hawaiian Islands. One loose handwritten page of notes which mentions several of the original missionaries. Two typewritten pages which list the children of Hiram Bingham and Samuel Whitney (also of the founding missionaries to Hawaii) and a list of the "First White Children Born in Hawaii" from 1820-1821. Unknown who took these notes, but the foxing of the pages suggests they are from the same time period the book was first published; may have been Ms. Castle herself. Condition: NEAR FINE. Some foxing on endpages and loose pages, all pages tight, bright and clear. --- The book itself is expanded on the the 1901 edition with corrections and additions of missing data and pictures, including a bibliography compiled by Bernice Judd and a listing of missionary companies, individual arrivals, missionaries and stations with maps, portraits and biographical sketches of the missionaries, including Micronesia and the Marquesas. --- ***FREE Domestic Shipping ***.
