Synopsis: A girl-woman blacksmith and farrier, Mary Louise "Lou" Fields, and Amos Solon Stevenson, a career soldier turned preacher, seek love and meaning in a troubled world. An intriguing blend of history, biography, and the plausible, this narrative is a sixty-year pilgrimage to the shrines of the spirit: the sites of struggle, loss, uncertainty, joy, love, and grace.

About the Author: A sixth-generation Tennessean, Doak M. Mansfield is a native of Fayetteville. He was an active Unitarian Universalist minister for twenty-five years, serving in Heritage UU Church in Cincinnati, Ohio (1975-85), in UU Church of Huntsville, Alabama (1985-2000), and as a U.S. Army reserve chaplain (1977-86). He now devotes most of his time to writing, occasional preaching, cat herding, and practicing iconoclastic ministry. The Mockingbird's Ballad is his first novel.
