About this Item

A Modern Comedy comprises three novels and two short " tales" which make up the second part of the Forsyte Chronicles. With the publication in 1922 of the Forsyte Saga, the first part of The Fo0rsyte Chronicles , the foundation was laid for what is thought to be the " most impressive achievement in modern English literature (1929). Taking nothing away from this great literary tome, there have been a few great achievements since then. This is a story of upper middle class society beginning with farmer Jolyon Forsyte in the early 18th century and completing in the early twentieth century. Very fine fold out family tree is tipped into this very fine copy. Book is bound in fine green cloth over boards and spine lettering and front cover lettering and blind stamp are gilt. Priced (8s 6d.net) jacket is very good with several chips on the front cover and at the top of spine. A fine collectible by a Nobel Prize winning English author. Bookseller Inventory # 000069
