About this Item

611, 476pp, printed in double columns, includes at rear of volume II, Une Nuit Etrange, by M. Wilkie Collins, three - quarter dark red leather and marbled boards, orange endpapers and pastedowns, edges of boards mostly worn through, boards moderately scuffed, both front boards detached from hinge, rear hinges cracked, with boards holding by the cords, spine ends thumbed, spine leather worn with pieces missing mostly at volume II, light to moderate foxing, title page at volume I moderately soiled, occasional water-staining noted at text. This appears to be the first American edition although the text is in French. It was presumably pirated by Lassalle who also issued editions by George Sand and Victor Hugo. The original was 1854.
