About this Item

(JACKSON, ANDREW). [BINNS, John]. Monumental Inscriptions. [N.P.: n.p., 1828]. 1st ed. [8]pp. Orig. printed wrappers. Removed, light scattered foxing, else very good. Rare, Worldcat locates seven copies. "The preceding Monumental Inscriptions, compiled from official documents, communicated by the Department of war to Congress, on the 25th January, 1828, are now offered to the American People, under a firm conviction that they ought, and must produce, a deliberate and just examination of the qualifications of General Andrews Jackson, for the exalted Civil station to which he now aspires. Shall, the Happiness, the Glory, and the Perpetuity of this Republic, be entrusted to one who has yet to learn how to govern his own vehement passions? Let the People of these United states pronounce the emphatic word no" (from the rear wrapper). Known as "coffin handbills" this pamphlet published headstone inscriptions of men ordered shot by Jackson in the Battle of New Orleans. Has a contemporary inscription on front wrapper about the contents. Bookseller Inventory # 70370
