"Prof. Knowlton From A Roman & Co." in pencil. Follansbee Welch (b.1843) was a Gymnastics instructor at Yale University, Dartmouth College, and Wesleyan University. He later ran a Sanitary Institute in New York, 1877-82. Welch received his medical degree at the New York Homeopathic Medical College (1870). The book is broken into four parts - I: The Gymnasium, its makeup, form of exercises and training; II: The Dio Lewis System of Gymnastics, group exercise to music and time; III: the House We Live In, health, body, food, bathing, sleep, religion, manners, hints and rules; IV: Mental and Moral Culture, general readings and proverbs of all nations.
