About this Item

"First Printing" stated. Very good in a very-good-minus jacket with closed tear to bottom of rear panel along spine. Acheson, Harry Truman's Secretary of State and stalwart defender of Alger Hiss and other Communist spies, later had a change of heart about his pal Joe Stalin and became the primary American architect of the Cold War. He'd quite properly parted company with the Roosevelt administration in 1933 over FDR's scheme to manipulate prices by buying up gold at above-market rates, which thus devalued the dollar, in turn devaluing and discouraging American savings. But he later went back to work for the same gang. This constitutes the first part of his autobiography, through 1941. 288 pp. including index. American political history 1930s. Reduced from $47.
