Presbyterian Committee of Publication, VA. Hoge was a noted clergyman in Richmond during the Civil War. He served with General Ewell around Richmond during the Seven Days battles. After he went to England on a mission to get bibles to the Confederacy. Hoge was a noted Presbyterian minister and served as the "honorary chaplain" to the Confederate Congress. A rare work, this copy was a given in August 1909 to Judge Robert McPheeters, who was a graduate in the second class at Westminster College in Fulton, MO. This copy was a part of the school library. Good+ copy of the first edition. Edge wear to the bottom corners, front hinge is starting. Gilt page tops. 518 pages. Bookseller Inventory # 40656
