Local history of the Nanton and Parkland districts of Southern Alberta - occupying Townships 15 and 16, Range 25 West 4 to Range 01 West 5. This region was very significant in the early (1881) years of beef ranching. Read about the A7 Ranche, Midway Ranch or the 25 Ranch for example. Contains as expected the births, marriages and deaths for dozens of area families. Read about the McElroys, the Ingrams, the Barrows and the Strouds. The early settlers had very strong Irish connections. The threshing outfits, freak storms, new cars, the Lost Lemon Mine, and local dance bands also make their mark. Schools, businesses and churches get their due. Some names of some surrounding (school) districts include: Round Mound, Basin, Table Butte, and Braehead. 610 pages total - well illus. with archival B/W photos, maps better than the norm. End-papers are photographs - round-up at front and grain stooks at back.Frontispiece is a 4 panel fold-out photo of a 1929 threshing crew. Cond : Boards are dark green with black lettering and graphic of a round-up wagon. D.J. is bright yellow w/ the same graphic as the boards. D.J. has v. light crinkles and one dime-sized piece missing at upper corner. LIGHT d.j. soiling, now protected in mylar. Colours bright, binding tight. Text block w/o marks, no names, creases, bumps, nor stains. No significant flaws. Giftable, excellent ALBERTA reference. (Heavy book in the mail.)
